won 6, lost 6
points for 108
The team consisted of:
David Beasley (Captain), Ron Bubb, Mike Ellis, David Suffolk, Graham
Simms, Roger Turner, Earl Morton, John Dawes, Peter Entwistle, Dennis Clive, Ron
Evans, Terry Sharpe and Bill Adamson.
The day started with two of our teams on at 9am and 1 won and 1 lost,
both by the same margin of 12 to 2.
The day progressed nicely with matches being quite close scoring,
the high point being two matches at 1 and 2 o'clock.
Both were against Bloxwich with Earl Morton, Bill Adamson and
Graham Simms coming back from 10 - 4 down to win their match 12 - 11 and
Roger Turner, David Beasley and John Dawes winning their match 12 - 0.
This caused a bit of concern for us as it put Walsall Men's
Probus at the top of the leader board.
Needless to say the team redeemed itself by
managing to lose two of the remaining three matches, by 11 - 12 and 7 -
12, and won the last match 12 - 8.
Our game plan from the start was to finish in second place if possible
as the winner had to organise the following year's competition, a job
that Keith Handley of Bloxwich has gained a lot of experience of over
the last 8 years. The final
result was another win for Bloxwich with 121 points, Aldridge were
second with 114 points, Walsall Men's Probus were third with 108 points
and Gorway were fourth with 91 points.
All in all it was a good days bowling which, with a bit more luck in a
couple of matches, we could have achieved our aim of coming second as we
were only 6 points down on Aldridge.
